Kinks Reunion Might Happen

The Kinks, one of the most influential and popular bands of the 1960s who haven’t performed together since 1996, have written new music for a possible reunion, singer Ray Davies said.

“It depends if there’s good music,” Davies said. “We want good new music. I’d like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do.”

The Kinks are known for there ‘60s hits such as, “You Really Got Me,” “Lola” and “Waterloo Sunset”.

In September, a reunion was also depending on the health of Davies bandmate and brother Dave, who suffered a stroke in 2004. But since then, the singer says his brother is in good health.

Davies has other projects in the works that he would have to plan a reunion around such as his solo U.S. tour, an album with a choir and a collaborative album.

He is planning on working with other artists such as Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, Snow Patrol as well as otherwise unknown and even unsigned artists.

“I don’t just want to do usual suspects,” he said. “I’d love to do something with Johnny, but I’d like to find new bands. Unsigned even. I usually like the underdogs.”

Davies is also aiming to duet with rock and roller Chuck Berry.

“I’ve never met the man but he was one of my heroes as a lyricist,” he said. We’ll see how it works out – a mixture of Snow Patrol and Chuck Berry. It should be an interesting record.”
