Nashville rockers Kings of Leon will release their fourth studio album, Only by the Night, September 23. The album is a follow-up to the brothers (and cousin) Followill’s previous success, 2007’s Because of the Times, which was featured in several “Best of 2007” lists.
The Southern boys see this record as having a larger sound than their previous efforts. “We took some risks, but you have to make a record you’re pleased with, you can’t worry about anybody else,” frontman Caleb Followill told NME.com.
The first single from the album, “Sex on Fire,” will be released September 15 and available for digital download September 8. Caleb, who originally came up with the title as a joke, has mixed feelings about the single.
“I was like, ‘Come on man, I gotta be singing about someone’s fiery sex for a year-and-a-half?’ It’s a bold title, you know, we’re getting old and we’re trying to make people think we have still have the sex drive that we did,” he said.
The band also released the track “Crawl,” which is a solid indicator of their desire to sound “bigger.” The lyrics of the lo-fi blues burner address some heavy topics, with lines like “The red, the white and the used/The crucified U.S.A.” The song is available for free download on their website.
Only by the Night’s tracklisting is:
“Closer”
“Crawl”
“Sex On Fire”
“Use Somebody”
“Manhattan”
“Revelry”
“Seventeen”
“Notion”
“I Want You”
“Be Somebody”
“Cold Desert”
