You know how they say any press is good press? With news like this, that statement could be up for major debate. It’s the kind of story a publicist hates to tell and a writer hates to write.

Justin Townes Earle has cancelled two tour dates, as well as his slot at this year’s Newport Folk Festival. Earle, who Guy Clark says plays like a hammer, reportedly sliced his hand, requiring 19 stiches. Now he’s sitting the next few dates out, which is sad news for both artist and listeners alike.

Well I guess there’s one upside. Maybe it’ll scar, and Justin, chicks dig scars.

Here’s throwing a little good press your way. Justin’s new album Harlem River Blues is set to be released September 14th. Go to iTunes now to buy the title track off the album: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/harlem-river-blues/id379139107

Earle’s Newport Folk Festival slot will go to the great Elvis Perkins in Dearland. NPR Music will be streaming most of the Festival; get the details here.
