If you’ve been following the saga of singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle, you know that he was arrested for battery, public intoxication, and resisting arrest last week, following a show at Radio Radio in Indianapolis.
Earle, who was released on bail, announced today that he will be suspending the remainder of his current tour dates, and will be checking into a rehab facility.
Earle has struggled with drug use in the past, and was famously kicked out of his father Steve Earle’s band, The Dukes, for drug abuse, which eventually lead Townes Earle to focus on his own critically-acclaimed solo career.
“Earle is strongly committed to confronting his on-going struggle with addiction,” reads a statement on his website, “and thanks his family, friends and fans for their continued support through this difficult time.”
Earle released the following statement last week:
“Unfortunately, reports surfacing online about the incident in Indianapolis are not accurate. I have been advised by counsel that I should not comment on a pending criminal matter, but suffice to say that I am looking forward to having my day in court. I would also like to say that I oppose violence against women in any form.”
