The current owner of this gorgeous lakefront property is asking that it goes to a buyer who will continue to preserve the legacy of the original owners — Johnny and June Carter Cash.

For sale is the 4-acre property on Tennessee’s Old Hickory Lake. You can check out photos here. It was built in 1967 and featured in the movie “Walk the Line.” Johnny bought the acreage in 1968 and the couple built a 14,000-square-foot home on the land, where they lived for 35 years until June’s passing in 2003 and Johnny’s death just a few months after. This is the only home that June and Johnny lived in together.
Prior to his death, Johnny filmed the video for “Hurt” in the home. In addition to fellow country stars, artists from other genres, politicians and even Billy Graham were houseguests. Neighbors include Marty Stuart and Connie Smith, as well as The Oak Ridge Boys’ Richard Sterban.

In “Walk the Line,” the property is shown when Johnny and June’s families come together for Thanksgiving.
Barry Gibb of pop brother trio The BeeGees purchased the land and home in 2006 with plans of renovating and making it an artist/writer’s retreat. But, in 2007, the three-story contemporary structure burned to the ground. What remains is June’s wardrobe room, which has since been converted into an updated and livable apartment, the stone walls and steps that surrounded the home, the original garage, a tennis court, pool and a covered dock on the lake.
The home, immortalized in the George Strait and Patty Loveless song “House of Cash,” is expected to sell auction-style. Additional details are available on RealTracs.com.
