Joanna Newsom writes complex music that pushes boundaries, which has won the singer-songwriter a devoted following. Among the faithful are M. Ward, Billy Bragg, and Owen Pallett, who all appear on the upcoming tribute album, Versions Of Johanna, whose title is a clever play on the Bob Dylan song “Visions Of Johanna.”
All proceeds will go towards Oxfam, a popular charity with rockers that fights global poverty and injustice. No official release date has been announced, but look for the album to be released digitally in December.
Read the outtakes from our interview with Newsom here, where you’ll find questions and answers that didn’t make the magazine, including Newsom’s take on her music appearing in a Victoria’s Secret commercial, her favorite authors, and whether or not our harp-playing heroine listens to Jethro Tull.
