Price also acts as the producer of “I Wanna Be With You,” first recorded by Colter for her 1984 album, Rock and Roll Lullaby. The new version is in keeping with Colter’s timeless sound with Price adding a current sound to the ’80s cut.
“I Wanna Be With You” was written alongside close friend Basil McDavid during Outlaw Country’s heyday. The buoyant song revels in the thrill of new love.
The full album, produced by Price and mixed by Shooter Jennings, son of Colter and Waylon Jennings, arrives on October 27. According to a press release, the new offering “is an exalting collection and sonic culmination of the many touchstones that make up Colter’s storied and still-evolving career.”
The record will include never-before-heard songs that Colter and Jennings wrote in the ’70s, as well as new gospel-influenced numbers and collaborations with her daughter Jenni Eddy Jennings.
The album, recorded over just a few days in Nashville, acts as her 13th studio LP and her first since the Lenny Kaye-produced The Psalms in 2017. Check out the full track list, below.
On Wednesday, September 20, Colter will debut a select number of the songs on Edge of Forever live at 3rd and Lindsley. The show will follow a special appearance by Colter at the Americana Honors & Awards at the Ryman Auditorium. Find ticket information, HERE.
