Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman kicked off his mini-residency at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 7.

Opened by Australian 80s aficionado Geoffrey O’Connor, the show featured songs from Lekman’s recently-released An Argument With Myself EP. The title track, an inner monologue on walking around Melbourne, was particularly well-received.

The more attentive fans in the audience knew when to laugh at Lekman’s humorously observational lyrics, many of which he also gave further anecdotes on. This included “Waiting for Kirsten,” a song about trying to meet Kirsten Dunst in his small hometown.

“In Gothenburg, they don’t let you into clubs based on how rich you are or whether or not you’ve made love to Spider-Man,” he said.

The animated Lekman threw confetti into the crowd and spread his arms like airplane wings to fly around the stage between songs. The set dug into his back catalog, featuring songs such as “I Killed A Party,” “The End of the World is Bigger than Love,” and “The Opposite of Hallelujah.”

Lekman performed two encores, ending the show by leading a haunting singalong to “Pocketful of Money.”
