Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Jay Stolar has filmed a video for his cover of Lorde’s “Royals,” the song that’s currently sitting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the video, Stolar wanders the streets of Nashville, belting out “Royals” in all its harmonized glory while taking in the sights and sounds of Lower Broadway.

“I heard ‘Royals’ for the first time last spring and was instantly hooked,” Stolar says. “The lyrical depth, unique production and overall infectiousness of the song was inspiring. When Lorde blew up we had a trip to Nashville planned, so we decided to do a americana/soul inspired cover.”
The idea to do the video was actually a last minute decision, and the scenes were shot on the fly. “A friend of mine grabbed a camera and shot a bunch of footage while I was hanging out in Nashville. One interesting fact is that the bass was recorded on the outside porch of Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta between sound check and the show. This whole cover project was pure and simple fun.”
