Jane Ellen Bryant’s “Hourglass” honors the lives lost at the Sandy Hook school shooting on December 14, 2012, an event which shocked her deeply.

The Austin, Texas singer-songwriter and Belmont University graduate wrote the song after reading about the lives of the children who were killed. “I was struck by one little girl’s story in particular,” she says. “Like me at that age, she loved to dance and sing, and she spent a lot of time playing with her siblings. I could not comprehend why her story, so much like my own, would end so quickly, while mine continues on. It reminded me of hourglasses: one may be full and appear to take forever to drip away, while another sifts quickly and abruptly ends.
“Mary Keating Bruton of MKB Photography filmed the video with the help of Charlie Schwan in Austin, Texas. The little girl who starred in the video, Marley Synan, is a family friend who happens to be in first grade at the elementary school where we filmed.”
All proceeds from the sale of “Hourglass” will be donated to Classes 4 Classes – an organization created by one of the Sandy Hook teachers, Kaitlin M. Roig.
