Jamey Johnson Announces New Studio Album ‘Midnight Gasoline’ His First in 14 Years

It has been 14 years since Jamey Johnson released his last studio album The Guitar Song in 2010. While he has been on the road almost constantly since then, some fans were starting to wonder if Johnson would ever go back into the studio. Then, last Friday (October 4), he announced Midnight Gasoline which will drop next month.

It seems that Johnson intends to make up for lost time. Midnight Gasoline isn’t just his first album in more than a decade. It’s the first release in a series of new albums recorded at the Cash Cabin studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash once owned the small rustic cabin packed with state-of-the-art studio gear. Now, their son John Carter Cash is at the helm. Johnson recorded more than 30 songs there over three weeks in which he slept on his bus outside the cabin.

“I’ve always wanted to make an album there,” Johnson shared in a statement. “I went in with an album in mind where we go in and cut and cut and cut. That is when I knew we were off to the races. This is more than an album. This is a series,” he added. Cash One is the album’s alternative title, denoting more albums to come from his Cash Cabin sessions.

The new album will contain songs Johnson has released in recent months including “21 Guns,” “What a View,” “Trudy,” and “Sober.” He released the most recent sample from the album, “Someday When I’m Old” last Friday. Watch the video below.

Jamey Johnson on Midnight Gasoline

Jamey Johnson discussed his new album in a press statement. “I think the only common thread would be me,” he said of Midnight Gasoline. “There isn’t an overtone or some underlying theme in the songs. They are just glimpses of my life. Some of them are just funny stories, not all of them were written recently. In that regard, I really am kind of picking up where I left off, grabbing those few songs that were probably ready to put out back then,” he added. “It’s good to get those out there.”
