Vedder, Grohl, Norah Jones tapped for Drake disc
Celebrated British songwriter Nick Drake will soon be getting his own tribute disc, to be released on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records. While the title and release date are unknown, confirmed acts for the project include Eddie Vedder, Norah Jones, and Dave Grohl. Jack Johson, king of all things mellow, will also contribute.
A DVD showcasing the album’s recording will be included. A video for the song “Black Eyed Dog,” filmed by the late Heath Ledger, a massive Drake fan, will appear on the DVD as well.
Nick Drake recorded three albums of melancholic, acoustic-based music before dying of a drug overdose in 1974 at the age of 26. The use of his song “Pink Moon” in 2000 in a Volkswagen commercial helped spawn the current synergy between TV ads and indie music.
