Jack Black Flexes His Musical Chops in ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Song “Peaches”

Jack Black is proving once again that he is just as enticing as a musician as he is an actor with a new song titled “Peaches.” The track was written for his new project, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The track makes use of Black’s sense of humor. Written from the perspective of Black’s character, Bowser, the lyrics are a loving ode to his romantic interest/captive Princess Peach. Like the video game, the film sees Mario aim to defeat Bowser in his attempt to take over the world and make Peach his wife – through any means necessary.

Peach, you’re so cool / And with my star, we’re gonna rule / Peach, understand / I’m gonna love you ’til the very end, he sings in a deep bass.

The song has become a hit on the iTunes Streaming Chart, steadily rising up the ranks. To bolster the song’s popularity even more, Black joined forces with director Cole Bennett for an equally tongue-in-cheek music video.

Black, dressed as Bowser, sits down at a peach-colored piano and hammers out the melody. Later, he dances around the room with a marked joy despite singing about unrequited love. Check out the video below.

“There was no talk of singing until about halfway through the recording process,” Black revealed to IGN. “We already had a few sessions, I think we were like a year in when they first sprung it on me. They were like, ‘How would you feel about Bowser singing a song?’ So I said, let me hear what you got. They sent over this little song, and I just couldn’t deny that it was funny. I was like, ‘I get it, I see why you want Bowser to do this.’ Tickling the ivories and singing a love song to Peaches, it’s undeniable.

“I was like, ‘Is this really gonna be in the movie?’ And then by God, they put it in the movie, and I’m really stoked for people to see this new sensitive side of Bowser,” he continued.
