Hannah Dasher Shares Love Letter to Imperfection with “Ugly Houses”

Hannah Dasher bares her soul on the heartfelt and autobiographical “Ugly Houses,” available now. The singer/songwriter penned the country ballad with Robert Arthur.

“‘Ugly Houses’ is the most vulnerable song I’ve ever released,” Dasher said in a release. “God’s been humbling me the past two years, doing a major renovation. Felt like I needed to share it with the world — especially during times like now. Whether listeners are believers or not, I hope this song leaves ’em in a better place than it found ’em.”

“Ugly Houses” is from Dasher’s forthcoming record, The Other Damn Half, available on August 4. With delicate strums of an acoustic guitar and soaring pedal steel, “Ugly Houses” highlights Dasher’s smokey vocals and confessional lyrics.

I’m a fixer-upper
Need a lot of repair
Kinda run down and out-dated
Stuff strewn everywhere
If you looked in my window
You’d probably wanna leave
You’d think, who would wanna live in me?

Well I ain’t no fancy castle
Got too much junk inside
But if you buy ugly houses, Lord
I’m taking down my for-sale sign

The Other Damn Half record was entirely co-written by Dasher. Songwriters on the project include Brent Anderson, Chris DuBois, Benjy Davis, Dave Turnball, Brandon Hood, Wynn Varble, Robert Arthur and Stephen Wilson Jr. The seven-track project was produced by Ilya Toshinskiy (Jelly Roll, Riley Green).

“Maybe you’re a fan of old-school country music, maybe you’re into the new stuff, or maybe you’re not a fan of country at all,” Dasher added. “Whichever it may be, there’s something on The Other Damn Half for you. I hope fans see a little of themselves on this new half record.”
