Acclaimed Brooklyn indie rockers Grizzly Bear have set a May 26 release date for their upcoming album, Veckatimest. The album is a long time coming — fans of the band have been eagerly waiting it since the critically acclaimed Yellow House, which was Pitchfork Media’s #8 album of 2006.

“Various things came and would jump in the way and prevent us from doing it straight through,” guitarist Ed Droste tells Billboard about the album’s creation. “But I think in many ways, that was beneficial. We all work best we can step away from it for a couple weeks and come back to it with fresh ears. We definitely took our time, because we wanted to make sure it was exactly how we wanted it.”

Twelve new songs make up Veckatimest, which was recorded in New York’s Allaire Studios, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and a New York church.

“Generally, each recording space had its strengths, and we tended to use each of those strengths,” Droste says. “Our voices sounded better in the church because of the natural reverb, and we really liked the microphones we were using at [Allaire] last summer.”

Veckatimest, to be released on Warp, is named after an uninhibited island off the coast of Massachusetts, and features guest appearances by Nico Muhly and Beach House’s Victoria Legrand.

Also coming up for Grizzly Bear -a spring tour and performances at the Sasquatch! and Bonnarroo festivals.
