Prominent stock imagery and film footage giant Getty Images is now hoping to be the place to find music for films, advertisements or anything else, as well. Premium Playlist has just launched and already includes more than 1,000 songs from the likes of Norah Jones, Barenaked Ladies, and John Denver. Deals are in place with Warner/Chappell, Koch Records, Cherry Lane, Red Light Management, Lionsgate Entertainment, Sci Fidelity Records, Nettwerk Music Group, Fat Beats, and Red Light Management, with plans to secure more. Through the non-exclusive agreements, Getty basically operates as an easy to access, easy to use synch-licensing arm. Premium Playlist is searchable by artist, label, genre, country of origin or even by budget. Each listing has a licensing fee chart next to it, detailing fees for each type of use (TV ad, TV program, film trailer, etc). Some tracks are pre-cleared for licensing, but with most the purchaser would contact Getty to get the deal going.

This isn’t Getty’s first foray into music, however, as the company purchased Pump Audio last year. Pump is essentially the indie version of Premium Playlist, containing over 100,000 songs from independent artists. With Pump, however, all songs are pre-cleared, merely a few clicks and a credit card number away from being usable. Getty plans to use the more than 600 representatives it has around the world to market music licenses to its existing global client base, which includes users in more than 100 countries. Premium Playlist and Pump are side-by-side under the music section of www.gettyimages.com.
