After releasing a handful of sparse, stark solo albums, singer/songwriter Jeffrey Foucault began widening his sound, piecing together his own brand of textured, midwestern Americana laced with pedal steel, accordion, organ, and electric guitar. He adds some serious muscle to that sound with Calvacade, his second album with the rock band Cold Satellite. A group of seasoned musicians from all corners of the rock & roll spectrum, Cold Satellite also features Billy Conway (drummer of the cult blues-rock act Morphine), Jeremy Moses Curtis (bassist for Booker T), David Goodrich (guitarist for Chris Smither), and pedal steel guitarist Alex McCollough.  a contemporary poet, played a big role in Calvacade’s creation, too, supplied every song with lyrics.

“I think what sets Cold Satellite apart is the strange pairing,” Foucault explains. “Lisa is a very modern writer and a rising star on the best press in the country, and this band is playing the least post-modern music possible — completely un-ironic, straight-up late-American rock ’n’ roll in the Crazy Horse, Creedence, Led Zeppelin, Faces vein.”
