From One Texas Legend to Another: George Strait Remembers Kris Kristofferson—“I’ll Treasure Those Times Forever”

Among the many decorated and glorified artists from Texas, two of the biggest names that come to mind are George Strait and Kris Kristofferson. Both musical giants and proud Texans, Strait and Kristofferson were pioneers in their own right and at their own times.

Given the similarities they share, it comes as a surprise the two never knew each other on a personal level. Rather, it was merely a professional one. Nevertheless, Strait being the country gentleman he is, still paid credit where credit is due and posted a tribute to his fellow Texas songwriter.

Kris Kristofferson’s Kindness Towards Strait

As many can guess, the music industry can be grueling, competitive, and thankless. So, when one artist stands against the status quo, it’s refreshing and reminds us that even these larger-than-life figures are still human. Well, that is exactly what Strait did in his X post, as he stated, “I knew him on a professional level only but I always felt like it was more because of the kindness and respect he showed me on the times we met.”

Regarding Kristofferson’s kindness, Strait also wrote, “My family, like most people, were huge fans and we will all miss him.” In addition to acknowledging the sheer kindness Kristofferson embodied, Strait also shed light on the magnitude of Kristofferson’s life and career. First by saying, “Artists and songwriters of this caliber come along very rarely and he certainly made his mark on the world.”

Secondly, it seems Strait also nudged at Kristofferson’s decorative life outside of music. After all the late great Kristofferson was a college football player, Rhodes Scholar, Golden Glove Boxer, and helicopter pilot. That being so, Strait wrote in the post, “He lived one heck of a life and I’m hoping it has only just begun for him.”

George Strait’s Post Proves Kristofferson’s Far-Reaching Impact

Per Strait’s comments about his professional relationship, it seems Kristofferson could also impact the people he didn’t know too well. The comments released by Strait and other artists are testaments to the magnitude of Kris Kristofferson’s life and career. He was a rambler, a poet, an actor, and in all, a Renaissance man who sucked the marrow out of life. It’s nice to see the world remembering that and using his influence for the greater good.

So sad to hear of the passing of @Kkristofferrson. Artists and songwriters of this caliber come along very rarely and he certainly made his mark on the world. My family, like most people, were huge fans and we will all miss him. I knew him on a professional level only but I always felt like it was more because of the kindness and respect he showed me on the times we met. I’ll treasure those times forever.  He lived one heck of a life and I’m hoping it has only just begun for him.

God bless Kris and all of the Kristofferson family. – gs (via X)
