Freddie Gibbs Hides Away in Motel in “Zipper Bagz” Music Video

On Freddie Gibbs’ major label debut album under Warner Music, he delivered the same potent, thoughtful lyricism that he had been for his entire career beforehand. $oul $old $eparately, released in Sept. 2022, saw him find the same pockets of flow and maintain the same chip on his shoulder as prior works like Alfredo (2020) and Bandana (2019), but arguably bring even more intensive lyrics relating to his personal life.

Touted as one of the best LPs hip-hop had to offer in 2022, $$$ received the music video treatment for “Zipper Bagz” on Thursday (March 23), the fourth song on the album’s tracklist. As the fifth visual released for the album, “Zipper Bagz” sees Gibbs employ a theme that’s been consistent throughout his career: drug dealing.

Ferociously rapping about his gang ways and selling narcotics, Gibbs shows a day in the life on “Zipper Bags.” The video opens with him arguing with a significant other, while receiving a voicemail from what appears to be his superior in the drug game. As the Spanish-speaking kingpin issues a threat to Gibbs for not completing an order, he makes his way to a motel to hide out and unwind with a blunt.

With a beat crafted by esteemed dance music instrumentalist KAYTRANADA, “Zipper Bagz” is one of the prime examples of Gibbs’ ability to mesh with any type of producer. After prior collaborative albums with Madlib and The Alchemist, $$$ saw Gibbs link with elite producers such as Boi-1da, Anderson .Paak, DJ Dahi, James Blake, and more.
