Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of France’s president Nicolas Sarkozy, is getting some heat for her first album, Comme si de rien n’était ( As if Nothing had Happened), released as first lady. She sings lyrics which include:
“You are my dope/More lethal than Afghan heroin/More dangerous than Columbian powder”
and
“I am a child/Despite my 40 years/Despite my 30 lovers/A child”
The Italian-born heiress/model/singer/songwriter and now political figure makes sure to explain that the album was not inspired by her quick marriage to President Sarkozy in 2008. Carla has said of herself that she is “easily bored with monogamy,” which may explain her reference to the plentitude of lovers.
As for the drugs, the Columbian foreign minister issued a statement saying that this song by the first lady of France is “very painful for Columbia.”
Regardless of all the commotion concerning Mme Sarkozy’s personal life, the President’s political team has been very optimistic about the album’s July 21 release and anticipates a boost for him. Her third album includes a song dedicated to her husband, and all royalties will be given to an unidentified charitable and humanitarian cause.
