UPDATE: DAVE MATTHEWS WEIGHS IN!

“I haven’t seen him yet, but I keep my head in the sand,” Dave Matthews tells Vulture in an article published on May 4. “More power to him, I don’t mind. I wouldn’t imagine that imitating me would bring any quality of popularity, but that’s okay if it does.” So this town is big enough for the both of them? “Oh, I don’t feel threatened. I am what I am,” Matthews laughed. “Maybe I paved the way for him. I wish him the best of luck! He should kick my ass, [then] maybe I can retire and he can take over my band.”

* * * *

Dave Matthews fans, what do you think of American Idol DMB devotee Phillip Phillips’ cover of “The Stone” from last night? J.Lo was weirded out by it, but that’s not surprising — she’d prefer to think of Phillips as an “original artist,” not the second coming of the man who brought us the arched eyebrow, the strained-scat vocal and the guitar-foot-shuffle.

Phillips, one of the show’s final six and a favorite to win, faces elimination tonight after last night’s Queen-themed episode.

So much to say. Let us know in the comments.

Apparently, “Fat Bottomed Girls” would not sound good as sung by Dave Matthews.
