The pop-punk torchbearers – frontman Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley – confirmed Wednesday (January 18) their eighth studio album will arrive on March 24. The project, titled So Much (For) Stardust, is their first album in five years.
“We wanted to get back to the way we used to work,” Stump shared of the coming album in a statement. “We wanted to make a record that was really lovingly crafted and deliberate and patiently guided – like someone cooked you a delicate meal. I’m not a very proud guy, but I’m pretty proud of this record.”
With the album announcement, the band also shared its lead single, the vicious banger, “Love From The Other Side.” Check out the song and its storybook music video below.
In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Stump and Wentz discussed the band’s return. Wentz touched on committing to making new music with the band post pandemic, explaining the importance of creating with purpose.
“Honestly, for me personally, coming out of the pandemic and just being quarantined or with my family,” he began, “I was like, ‘If we’re going to do this, and if I’m going to leave again … it’s got to be with purpose.’ It can’t just be like, this… big show here. Yeah, it couldn’t be that anymore to me…
“Anybody who loves the thing that they do, their craft, you want to do it for the reason you originally loved,” the bassist continued. “And it’s great actually to me to have these moments where you can reorganize the apartment of your mind or whatever. Life is short and long.”
Fall Out Boy’s album announcement arrives after weeks of sending cryptic messages to fans through newspaper ads, postcards, and even seashells.
