Last year, Yep Roc Records threw a birthday bash for itself in North Carolina… and Nick Lowe showed up to steal the show.

We’ve got proof. Check out this live performance of “Without Love,” where he hiccups like Buddy Holly, croons like a debonair Elvis and strums his way through the song’s rockabilly beat like a member of the Everly Brothers. The result is pure Lowe, meaning it’s got the perfect mix of poppy melody and rootsy swagger. Someone book this dude for our next throwdown!
Lowe will be keeping himself busy this fall, by the way. Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection For All The Family, the first Christmas album of his 35-year career, comes out on October 29th, featuring three originals, a handful of gospel standards, and covers of holiday songs by Roger Miller and Ron Sexsmith. You can listen to clips of the album’s twelve tracks here. There’s also a Japan tour in the works, not to mention the final leg of his current tour with Kim Richey (check out dates here). Hey, no one ever said being the life of the party was easy.
