Lights, TV specials, shopping deals, holiday parties, event planning, and so many other things divert one’s attention away from the heart of Christmas. However, these things also make Christmas so hard to wait for. Even though it comes around yearly, the Christmas anticipation never stops. It might change depending on your age, but it never truly leaves. Rather, it just reinvents itself. All that being so, Hillary Scott attested to this fact by speaking with American Songwriter about her newest song and familial collaboration, “Hard To Wait For Christmas.”

Written by Scott, her husband, Chris Tyrrell, and her 11-year-old daughter, Eisele Kaye, the tune could not be a better way to celebrate familial holiday cheer. In short, it’s a fun song, but there are a few lyrics in there that’ll make you profoundly scratch your head about this holiday season.
Hillary Scott noted the wholesome motive of the song, stating, “In our heart, as a family, the song just encourages other families to have fun together this Christmas season” and “To just be playful together.” Why this playfulness seemingly means so much to Scott and her family is because it was this playfulness that partially inspired the song.
The Embedded Lesson in Advent Calendars
Advent Calendars, most are familiar with them and if you grew up with them as a child, you know how painfully annoying they can be. Well, Scott’s twin daughters held a similar feeling towards the calendar, as when Scott and Tyrrell got their twin daughters Advent calendars for the 2023 Christmas season all they wanted to do was open every single day right away. You can’t blame them, what child enjoys waiting for presents and gifts?
Subsequently, Scott, Tyrrell, and Eisele aimed to teach the twins the importance of waiting and patience. Well, the conversation not only provided the little ones with an invaluable message but also provided the world with an invaluable Christmas song. Following the conversation the three family members sat down and impressively wrote “Hard To Wait For Christmas” all in one sitting.
Hillary Scott is “Such a Beaming Proud Mother”
This song offers families celebrating Christmas with timeless messages and jubilant joy. However, it has also meant the world to Hillary Scott as the mother of her talented daughter, Eisele. “Watching our oldest, and you know, her talent, her gift, her voice, and her lyrical ability, it’s just, I’m such a proud mother,” divulged Scott.
Hillary Scott and Eisele’s favorite line is Cause if I’m honest it feels nice / To give more than receive. Crafted by she and her daughter, Scott couldn’t be a prouder mother when it comes to her 11-year-old daughter’s understanding of such a mature sentiment. Scott stated, “Every time we listen to the song and it gets to that line I get a lump in my throat.” As a parent, Scott couldn’t be more impressed with her daughter for understanding a notion that most children don’t understand at such a young age.
Scott celebrated her daughter’s wise disposition saying, “She is a deep thinker and a big feeler” and “I’m just really, really proud of my girl.”
To Scott and her Family, Giving is Better Than Receiving
This song and its crafting provided the Scott family with a staple Christmas memory outlined by holiday cheer and sentimental truths. Matter of fact, Scott stated, “Forever will it be a Christmas memory” to her and her family. Although, this wholesome joy and sentimental truths don’t start and stop with their family, as Scott hopes this song can reach and touch families everywhere.
“Whether it’s grandparents to grandchildren, all generations. I feel like this song and the playfulness of it still talks about big themes around the holidays” and “It can really be a bridge to conversation about what it means to be in the holiday season,” stated Scott. She added to the statement by saying, “I just feel like everyone needs to get on Amazon and order a pack of kazoos for $4 and put the song on and pretend like you’re playing the trumpet” and most importantly, “Have fun.”
So, in totality, as much as this song means to Hillary Scott and her family, she wants it to mean the same to any other families listening to the tune. A true holiday song encompassing true holiday joy and messages. Hats off to Hillary Scott, Eisele, Chris Tyrrell, and their twin daughters for creating a staple holiday family anthem.
