G. Love is best known for pioneering an appealing blend of blues and rap in the ’90s, but there’s more to the artist than just cold beverages and special sauce. Love, a longtime student of roots music and the blues, recently teamed up with the popular Americana outfit The Avett Brothers (who cite Love as an influence) to reinvigorate his sound and indulge in his acoustic side.

Scott and Seth Avett produced and appear on the Philly musician’s upcoming album, Fixin’ To Die, which is due February 22 from Brushfire Records. The album features a handful of brand new Love songs, as well as his renditions of tunes by Bukka White, Blind Willie McTell, Lou Reed, and a surprisingly soulful cover of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.”

We’re proud to debut two of the tracks from Fixin’ To Die: the shuffling, banjo-fueled “The Road,” and the Seth Avett co-written, sweet-as-molasses “Katie Miss.”
