Every Artist Who Scored Nominations at the 2024 Emmy Awards: Billy Joel, Usher, and More

The 2024 Emmy Award nominees have been revealed, and music is having a moment. Billy Joel, Usher, Jay-Z, and Lionel Richie are just a few of the nominated artists. Here are all the artists who have earned nominations for Emmys this year.

2024 Emmy Nominations in Music

Billy Joel: The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden has been nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded). Billy Joel was previously nominated in 2002 for Billy Joel: In His Own Words.

Lionel Richie earned a nomination as executive producer of The Greatest Night in Pop, nominated in the category for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.

The Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show Starring Usher has earned Usher a nomination for Outstanding Variety Special (live). Additionally, this is Usher’s first Emmy nomination. Jay-Z and Jesse Collins also earned nominations in that category as GRAMMY Awards executive producers. Executive producer Ben Winston and producer/host Trevor Noah also share the nomination.

Choreographer Nina McNeely earned a nomination for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming for The Weeknd’s series The Idol.

More of This Year’s Nominations

Hans Zimmer earned three nominations. One is notably for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for The Tattooist of Auschwitz‘s song “Love Will Survive.” In the same category are Maya Rudolph for her Saturday Night Live “Mother’s Day Monologue”; Sara Bareilles for the Girls5eva song “The Medium Time”; and John Hawkes for the True Detective: Night Country track “No Use.”

Continuing the Original Music and Lyrics category, Pasek & Paul are looking at possibly EGOT status with “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” from Only Murders in the Building. They are sharing the nomination with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Nine Inch Nails’ Atticus Ross has earned a nomination for his musical work on the series Shogun. Additionally, while not for music, Selena Gomez has earned nominations for Only Murders in the Building—one for Outstanding Lead Actress and another for executive producing the series. Donald Glover has earned nominations for acting, writing, and producing the series Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The Voice has also grabbed five nominations, which brings its series total to 81 nominations and eight wins, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

This Year’s Emmy Snubs

Lady Gaga‘s Gaga Chromatica Ball did not earn any nominations in the Outstanding Choreography category, to the despair of fans. Additionally, Bruce Springsteen missed out on an Outstanding Guest Comedy Acting nomination for Curb Your Enthusiasm, as did Bad Bunny for Saturday Night Live.
