Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has always been known for his pipes, thanks to an impressive range and unique sense of melody. So it should come as no surprise then that Vedder enjoys indulging in a little karaoke from time to time. The singer was recently spotted at a Chicago Cubs Fantasy Camp, belting out a rousing performance of U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name,” from their seminal album The Joshua Tree.
In other, possibly more important, Pearl Jam news, Eddie and the gang are getting ready to go back into the studio in Los Angeles to record a follow-up to 2006’s Pearl Jam (their eighth studio release). According to bassist Jeff Ament, the new disc is very focused around lyrical songwriting, though many of the tracks are still in early instrumental stages (a majority of which were written last summer).
“There’s a handful of really great lyrics,” Ament tells Billboard.com. “Lyrically, that stuff is in the embryonic stage, but there’s a handful of lines and a couple of choruses that are just really great. He [Vedder] keeps getting better.”
“I saw [guitarist] Mike [McCready] last night and we were both talking about this song and that song. One of the songs we decided would go down a whole step and he was asking me about a chord progression.”
Pearl Jam is working with producer Brendan O’Brien, who recently remastered the band’s debut, Ten. The reissue of Ten will be available March 24th.
No title or release date for Pearl Jam’s latest project have been released.
