On Monday night (May 22), the 55-year-old made an Instagram post that included a screenshot of a tweet from Billboard. The Tweet listed the top 16 rappers with the most albums ever charted on the Billboard 200. E-40 found himself atop this list, as he has 33 solo and collaborative albums that have landed on the chart. Acknowledging this, he captioned the post alluding that his next double album, titled Rule of Thumb, will add to this staggering number, as well as including the release date for the project.
“Numbers don’t lie I’m just getting started 7/7/2023 E-40 ‘Rule of Thumb’ 1 & 2 stay tuned ! @billboard,” he wrote.
Although E-40 has not yet confirmed the track list for Rule of Thumb, the LP containing two parts surely means that fans will receive a great deal of new music from the rap legend. With its July 7 arrival date, Rule of Thumb will drop just before the four-year anniversary of the emcee’s 2019 26th studio album Practice Makes Paper, which included feature verses from Roddy Ricch, Quavo, Rick Ross, Scarface, Redman, Method Man, and more.
Even though E-40 hasn’t released a full-length solo effort since before the COVID-19 pandemic, his collaborative efforts in the meantime have made up for it. In December, he joined the newly-formed supergroup Mount Westmore for their debut album Snoop Cube 40 $hort, which contained 16 brand new songs from the quartet of West Coast hip-hop icons.
In other recent news involving E-40, he was able to earn an honorary doctorate degree from his undergraduate alma mater Grambling State University earlier this month, signifying their appreciation for his donations to the school and how well he’s represented them. At the ceremony, he delivered a wholesome quote while donning his cap and gown.
“This means so much to me, man. I’ve come a long way,” he said. “It’s with great honor and gratitude that I accept this honorary doctorate in music. I would like to express my appreciation to the administration and academic community of Grambling State University.”
