Why Newsweek? ‘Cause that’s where radical priests go to get release.
This is the second track from the album to surface; Dylan offered the first peek at Together Through Life when he gave away an MP3 of “Beyond Here Lies Nothin’” on his website.
“Feel A Change Comin’ On,” has a dreamy, bouncy feel to it, and features a lyrical bent similar to songs on Modern Times, contrasting the passing of time with the struggles of living. It’s aided by Los Lobos’ David Hilgado’s playful accordion, and features the lines “dreams never worked for me, even when they did come true,” and, also, “I’ve been listening to Billy Joe Shaver and I’m reading James Joyce, some people, they tell me I’ve got the blood of the land in my voice.”
You can also read part three of Bill Flanagan’s recent interview with Dylan over at Newsweek’s Pop Vox, where the greatest songwriter of his generation talks about Barack Obama, the Civil War, and Elvis Presley.
Here’s an excerpt:
Are you a mystical person?
Absolutely.
Any thoughts about why?
I think it’s the land. The streams, the forests, the vast emptiness. The land created me. I’m wild and lonesome. Even as I travel the cities, I’m more at home in the vacant lots. But I have a love for humankind, a love of truth, and a love of justice. I think I have a dualistic nature. I’m more of an adventurous type than a relationship type.
But the new album is all about love–love found, love lost, love remembered, love denied.
Inspiration is hard to come by. You have to take it where you find it.
