For about as long as they’ve been playing shows, the Grateful Dead have allowed fans to record them. Naturally, there was a dedicated section for tapers behind the soundbooth at the band’s three day farewell concert, Fare Thee Well.
NYCTaper, longtime chronicler of events in his home city, sent equipment to his friend Bill Walker in Chicago who was able to record the band’s July 3 set. NYCTaper said that his project “would almost certainly not exist in its current incarnation were it not for the Grateful Dead and the tapers who captured the shows.”
