More About ELO

Lynne co-founded the Electric Light Orchestra with multi-instrumentalist Roy Wood and drummer Bev Bevan, all of whom had played together in the U.K. band The Move. After Wood exited the group during the making of ELO’s second album, ELO 2, in 1973, Lynne became the band’s sole leader and principal songwriter.

ELO issued scored a series of hit albums and songs throughout the 1970s and well into the ’80s. Among the group’s many popular tunes are “Evil Woman,” “Strange Magic,” “Livin’ Thing,” “Telephone Line,” “Turn to Stone,” “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman,” and “Don’t Bring Me Down.”

After ELO disbanded in 1986, Lynne joined the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys for several years. He also released his debut solo album, Armchair Theatre, in 1990.

Lynne relaunched the Electric Light Orchestra for the 2001 album Zoom. After putting out a second solo album, Long Wave, in 2012, he brought back his old group under the moniker Jeff Lynne’s ELO. Since then, the band has released two albums—Alone in the Universe (2015) and From Out of Nowhere (2019)
