November 19, 2024, will mark the 40th anniversary of the release of Don Henley’s second solo album, Building the Perfect Beast. In commemoration of the milestone, the Eagles co-founder will release a remastered version of the hit album on October 4.

Building the Perfect Beast’s 40th anniversary edition will be issued as a two-LP set pressed on 180-gram vinyl and via digital formats. The album, which can be pre-ordered now, has been remastered from the original analog tapes.
The two-disc set will mark the first time the full Building the Perfect Beast track list will be available on vinyl. Previously, the song “A Month of Sundays” only was included on the CD, cassette, and digital versions of the album.
A remastered version of hit single “The Boys of Summer” has been made available via digital formats and streaming as an advance track from the 40th anniversary edition of Building the Perfect Beast.

Building the Perfect Beast yielded four Top-40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100—“The Boys of Summer,” “All She Wants to Do Is Dance,” “Not Enough Love in the World,” and “Sunset Grill.”
“The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” both broke into the Top 10 of the Hot 100, peaking at No. 5 and No. 9, respectively.

Henley co-wrote “The Boys of Summer” with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell. For “Not Enough Love in the World” and “Sunset Grill,” Henley collaborated with another Heartbreakers member, keyboardist Benmont Tench, along with acclaimed session guitarist Danny Kortchmar. Kortchmar also wrote “Sunset Grill” by himself.
The album featured contributions from an impressive roster of guest musicians and singers. They included The album also features contributions from Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, Randy Newman, Belinda Carlisle of The Go-Go’s, Patty Smyth, Martha Davis of The Motels, Jim Keltner, Waddy Wachtel, and Toto’s David Paich and Steve Porcaro.
Building the Perfect Beast reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200. It went on to be certified triple platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 3 million copies in the U.S.
In 1985, “The Boys of Summer” won four Moonmen trophies at the MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year. In 1986, the song won a Grammy in the Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male category. It also was nominated for the Song of the Year and Record of the Year prizes.
The Eagles’ 2024 Concert Plans
As previously reported, the Eagles will begin a residency at the Sphere venue in Las Vegas starting on September 20. The band has a total of 20 concerts scheduled, four shows each month from September through January 2025.
