“It’s so sexy to be living in America” sounds like a Top 40 hook, but it comes straight from the fun-loving Worcester, Massachusetts songwriter Dom.

Dom – real name, Dominic – and his band (also named Dom), play fuzzy, hooky surf-rock that borrows the lo-fi laptop beats of chillwave, but, as Dom joked to NME early last summer, he’d rather it be filed under “ginger wave.” (He’s got red hair.)

Dom’s EP, Sun Bronzed Greek Gods, released last week by Astralwerks, has been remixed and remastered – industry parlance for letting a real engineer get his hands on previously scuzzy, digitally in-the-red recordings. The re-release sounds great, building on the stuttering Fruity Loops beats, synths and guitars and Dom’s effortless vocals.

On “Rude As Jude” he sings, “I’ve got a not-really-care-itude, I’m gonna live how I want to” over a slinky chord progression. With pop songwriting chops a la Wavves and the handmade aesthetic of Ariel Pink, Dom is new dude in town.
