Dolly Parton’s New Album ‘Rockstar’ Heads to Theaters

Dolly Parton is heading to theaters for a special one-of-a-kind event. No, this isn’t a belated sequel to the 1980 film 9-to-5—although one can dream. Instead, Parton’s celebrating her new album Rockstar in one of the biggest ways possible.

Heading to the Silver Screen

The Dolly diehards will be able to experience Parton’s new album before it officially comes out in stores on November 17. Parton is taking her album to select theaters, putting together a film package that takes viewers through the process of laying out the album.

Taking to Instagram, Parton made the announcement. “To celebrate the launch of ‘ROCKSTAR’, I am announcing a first-listen fan event in movie theaters and cinemas worldwide on Nov 15, with select encores on Nov 16!”

As Parton mentioned, the event will be in theaters for a limited time only. So, fans will have to go to the silver screen on a weeknight if they want to experience the film. To check to see if your local theater is holding the event, head HERE to purchase tickets.

Going Behind the Scenes

So what can one expect from the film? Well, according to Parton, the film event will include songs from the album as well as behind-the-scenes videos. Viewers will get to experience music videos for the album’s various songs including a performance of the song “Circle of Love.”

Most of all, you’ll get more Dolly, which is never a bad thing for fans of the superstar. Parton will likely go into more specifics on her reasons for producing her first rock album as well as discuss how the album came together. A portion of proceeds will go to Parton’s charity work.

If you’re unable to make the event, it remains to be seen if Parton will later release the film on streaming or DVD. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Parton says her journey into rock came as a result of her induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “But I still didn’t feel great about it,” she said. “I still thought I needed to earn it. That’s why I thought, ‘Well, timing is perfect. There’s a real reason for me to do this rock ’n’ roll album. Here I am a rock star at 77.’”
