Did Morgan Wallen Pledge $500K To Bail Out Volunteer Fans Arrested on Broadway?

The highlight of this weekend’s College Gameday special was not the commentary on the Vanderbilt versus Tennessee game. Rather, it was Pat McAfee’s comment about the fake post regarding Morgan Wallen allegedly paying the bail of Tennessee fans.

Like many, McAfee is just another example of how fake news gets the better of folks from time to time. McAfee made an honest mistake and was not aware of the implications of the statement or the illegitimacy of the X post. That being so, when a comment such as this appears on live TV, it incites a social media frenzy of mass proportions. However, the comment is unarguably false.

Morgan Wallen Allegedly Paid $500,000 for Tennessee Fans Bail

The post that McAfee referenced on TV stated, “BREAKING: Morgan Wallen pledges $500k to Nashville Police Department to cover bail fees for any Volunteer fan who gets arrested on Broadway” and “I’ve had my fair share of missteps on Broadway and I just want to give back.”

On live television, McAfee said, “I know Morgan Wallen, University of Tennessee legend, has put up $500,000 for any fines for any Tennessee fans that take the uprights and drag ’em down Broadway.” Well, both these comments were quickly debunked, as neither Wallen nor his team ever confirmed the comment to be true. Furthermore, many folks who saw the post read it as a joke.

Where Wallen Has Actually Donated $500,000

Contrary to this falsehood, Wallen has actually donated $500,000 to some more admirable causes. When Hurricane Helene tore through North Carolina and Tennessee this fall, Morgan Wallen donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief. Additionally, the performer donated over 140,000 pounds to the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, per The Morgan Wallen Foundation.

Needless to say, Wallen is a philanthropist. And, despite the potential soft spot he might have for Broadway troublemakers, he solely uses his success for some causes in dire need. Wallen nor his team ever officially commented on the post or McAfee’s reciting of it.
