Decemberists Raid Their Musical Locker

Portland indie rockers the Decemberists are getting ready to hit the road, and this time they’re bringing a little extra baggage along with them. Portland indie rockers the Decemberists are getting ready to hit the road, and this time they’re bringing a little extra baggage along with them. In addition to guitars, drums, and thoughtful lyrics, frontman Colin Meloy and company are digging up their musical roots and re-learning their back catalog to play on the “A Short Fazed Hovel” Tour.

“We’ve only played one of these songs live, and even then, it was accidental and didn’t go down very well,” Meloy tells Billboard.com. “We were just kind of goofing around.”

If you plan on catching the tour though, don’t worry-not all of the songs will be from days of Decemberists past. The band is also prepping tunes from previous albums and from their upcoming release, The Hazards of Love. Hazards, actually one continuous piece, will be played straight through at the band’s performances.

The Hazards of Love will be released March 24.
