Death Cab for Cutie have announced that The Open Door, a new EP to follow the commercial and critical success of 2008’s Narrow Stairs, will be comprised of songs recorded for Narrow Stairs that were eventually cut from the album.

“It’s not like they’re castoffs or anything; they’re part of the Narrow Stairs experience. They needed to have a proper home, and the EP is it,”  bassist Nick Harmer stated in an MTV interview.

The Open Door, due March 31st, will feature four previously unreleased tracks, as well as a demo recording of the Narrow Stairs track “Talking Bird.” Death Cab for Cutie will take Andrew Bird and Ra Ra Riot on tour this summer, and on July 5th, they’ll be joined by the Los Angeles Philharmonic for their show at the Hollywood Bowl.
