Death Cab For Cutie, Sufjan Stevens Announce New Albums

It’s a big news day for indie rock: Death Cab For Cutie and Sufjan Stevens both announced new studio albums set for a March 31 release.

The announcement is huge for Stevens fans, who have been waiting for new solo material since the singer released 2010’s The Age Of Adz. Stevens’ new album, Carrie & Lowell, is said to be a return to his folk roots.

Death Cab For Cutie’s Kintsugi, which gets its name from the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with metallics like gold and silver to highlight the cracks, will be the group’s eighth studio album.

“Considering what we were going through internally, and with what a lot of the lyrics are about, it had a great deal of resonance for us – the idea of figuring out how to repair breaks and make them a thing of beauty,” says bassist Nick Harmer.

Kitsunagi will be the band’s first full-length release following the departure of founding guitarist/keyboardist Chris Walla.
