Mark your calendars, Dave Matthews fans. April 14, 2009 marks the release of the Dave Matthews Band’s first studio album in four years and the beginning of a U.S. tour. The currently untitled album is being produced by Rob Cavallo, the man responsible for first signing Green Day and producing Dookie and American Idiot. He also produced the Goo Goo Dolls’ Dizzy Up The Girl, so this album could have a little more rock in its roll. Though DMB has been playing unreleased songs on its last two tours, there’s no word as to whether any of them will appear on the album alongside the never-played-live songs promised by the band.
Who will appear on the album is longtime guitarist Tim Reynolds, who hasn’t recorded with the band since 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets. Also joining the tour are Rashawn Ross on trumpet and sax player Jeff Coffin, who’s been playing with DMB since the untimely death of band member LeRoi Moore in August. The tour will start at Madison Square Garden and go through New Orleans for the 40th Annual Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 26, winding up in Las Vegas on May 9. For those in need of a more immediate Dave Matthews fix, a double CD recording of the band’s closing performance at the first Mile High Music festival last July, Live at Mile High Music Festival, releases today.
