ARTIST: Wendy Jo Girven
SONG: “The Last Secret”

HOMETOWN: Towanda, Pennsylvania

CURRENT LOCATION: Castine, Maine

AMBITIONS: Write honestly, write often.

TURN-OFFS: Pessimism, sweatpants.

TURN-ONS: Cowboy boots, kindness, banjos.

DREAM GIG: On stage at the Ryman Auditorium.

FAVORITE LYRIC: “She wants to do right, but not right now.” “Miss Ohio” by Gillian Welch.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Pancho & Lefty” by Townes Van Zandt.

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Jason Isbell, Doc Watson, Gillian Welch, Memphis Minnie, and Earl Scruggs.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: I saw Doc Watson with my dad a few years before Doc passed. His voice is just about the purest thing I’ve ever heard. I grew up with it as the soundtrack to car trips with my family. Abigail Washburn opened for him that night, and I remember seeing her across the aisle from me during his set, also in awe of his music and being. It was a good reminder that we all have heroes.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE… heartbreak, of course, and all of its trappings.
