ARTIST: The Wealthy West

SONG: “I’ve Got To Go”

HOMETOWN: Memphis, Tennessee

CURRENT LOCATION: Austin, Texas

AMBITIONS: I love writing music, and want to keep doing it and playing it for people! I think music has the power to make a difference, and I’d like to at least make a small one.

TURN-OFFS: Bland food and bland people.

TURN-ONS: Spicy food,and spicier people.

DREAM GIG: I’ve really been into Nathaniel Rateliffe’s new record. It’d be great to share a stage with him.

FAVORITE LYRIC: “Joy to the fished in the deep blue sea, Joy to you and me.”

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “One of These Days” – Neil Young

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Neil Young, Steve Carrel, My Grandma, Thom Yorke, Bjork

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: I got to watch Stevie Wonder a couple years ago at ACL, and that man has a love for music that is just palpable! It was amazing to see him loving what he’s doing after so many years of doing it!

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE… I write music as a way to work through my own life, and emotions. It’s hard for me to separate sometimes, but it’s what I know. Writing, for me, is therapy. At the time I was writing this song, I was wondering why I do what I do and what sort of legacy I want to leave behind. Maybe there’s more out there than just chasing down melodies and combining words and rhymes.
