Videos by American Songwriter

ARTIST: Tanbark

SONG: “Chesapeake Coat”

HOMETOWN: Minneapolis, Minnesota

CURRENT LOCATION: Brooklyn, New York

AMBITIONS: To soundtrack my life with pedal steel guitar.

TURN-OFFS: Blue cheese, birds of paradise.

TURN-ONS: Bolo ties, crooked noses.

DREAM GIG: In the desert amongst the saguaro.

FAVORITE LYRIC: Take me to the station don’t be late / I need to spend some money and it just won’t wait. – “I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight” by Richard and Linda Thompson

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Down Where the Valleys Are Low” by Judee Sill

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH:  Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, Julia Child, Katherine Hepburn, and Shel Silverstein.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: Califone after hours in an office space in Minneapolis.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE…I was brooding a bit in the dead of a Minnesota winter, thinking about faraway friends, warmth, and adventure. James had just written this tune with these soaring choral moments, and with the lyrics it became a bittersweet meditation on the seasons.
