ARTIST: Shelby Lee Lowe

SONG: Slow Dancing

BIRTHDATE: 03/28/1990

HOMETOWN: Lewisburg, TN

CURRENT LOCATION: Lewisburg, TN

AMBITIONS: My main ambition is to write and perform music that I am proud of, and I want to make a living doing so. I want to support my family with my music career.

TURN-OFFS: Musically, my biggest turn-off would be any song that doesn’t sound genuine or feels forced.

TURN-ONS: I love when I hear a song that makes me think I know how the writer felt when they wrote it. I love a song with great imagery that tells a good story.

DREAM GIG: My dream gig would be touring and playing as many places as I can in front of as many people as I could and making lots of money for it! I have a bucket list of venues and festivals I want to perform at including The Ryman and The Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

FAVORITE LYRIC: the silence of a falling star, lights up a purple sky, and as I wonder where you are, I’m so lonesome I couldcry – Hank Williams.

CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: My dad “Murfer” who was in a motorcycle gang and drove a transfer truck. He looks like a retired pro-wrestler, and he thinks he is a comedian. You never know what he might say.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: The Dance by Garth Brooks written by Tony Arata. That song was a huge hit for Garth and it is so well written.

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: I would like to have dinner with Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, Sturgil Simpson, Jason Isbell and Eric Church. I feel like I could learn a lot speaking to them about their careers. Also, I am just a big fan of their work.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: I got to see two of my favorite artists Dwight Yoakam and Eric Church perform in Knoxville last October. Jeff Hyde, Eric Chruch’s auxiliary player and co-writer of several Eric Church hits, came into the store I worked at the day before and we talked about music and writing among other things. I mentioned that I was a fan, and he hooked me up with some tickets to be in the pit by the stage. It was a great experience, and I have a lot of respect for Jeff for going out of his way for that!

I WROTE THIS SONG: I wrote this song with Mike Brandon and Richard Mitchell of Second City Publishing. This was one of the first times I have ever written on Music Row, and I was a bit nervous. The hook for this song came to me as I was slow dancing to www.memory by Alan Jackson. I remember immediately making a note of slow dancing to Alan Jackson in my phone. Mike and Richard loved the idea and took off running with the song. Since releasing this song, it has been one of my favorites. “Slow Dancing” has been one of my most popular songs for weddings. I even have fans that got the song lyrics tattooed on them.
