ARTIST: Rebecca Jordan

SONG: “Anchor”

HOMETOWN: Cleveland, Ohio

CURRENT LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

AMBITIONS: To write songs that move people.

TURN-OFFS: Pollution, arrogance, non-Haribo gummy bears.

TURN-ONS: Vinyl, full moons, science, the rolling stones, humor, and kindness

DREAM GIG: Montreux Jazz Festival

FAVORITE LYRIC: “Tell me of Poe, Oscar Wilde, and Thoreau, let your midnight and your daytime turn into love of life…and there’s only one meadow’s way to go, and you say ‘geronimo’” – Van Morrison, “Fair Play” (from his stunning but hard to find album, Veedon Fleece, I was lucky to score in a Lower East Side record store)

SONG I WISH I WROTE: So many! But certainly at the top of the list is “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks, “(Sittin on) The Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding & Steve Cropper, and “Clair de Lune” by Debussy.

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: My great grandmother, Hafiz, Louis Armstrong, Maya Angelou, and Anthony Bourdain.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: November 6, 2014. Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life Tour at Madison Square Garden. “Songs In the Key of Life” was such a vivid part of my childhood, seeing it performed live was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was a buoyant and emotional show. Stevie cried twice, and so did all 18,000 of us in attendance.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE… I had to. Sometimes I don’t know why a song has shown up to get written. “Anchor” was a song idea that wouldn’t let me be, it kept directing my dreams until it got free
