ARTIST: Mike Uva
SONG: “Lady, Tell Me Straight“
HOMETOWN: Syracuse, NY
CURRENT LOCATION: Cleveland, OH
AMBITIONS: Make great records. Be a good dad. Travel a bit.
TURN-OFFS: People being dicks.
TURN-ONS: A nice laugh. Mimosas . . . this is awkward.
DREAM GIG: Writing movie music.
FAVORITE LYRIC: “They say love conquers all. You can’t start it like a car. You can’t stop it with a gun.” –W. Zevon
CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: My friend Joey can tell some stories. He lights off the big fireworks shows around Fourth of July and goes on motorcycle adventures with his guitar.
SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Soft Picasso” by Vic Chesnutt
5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: All together at once? I don’t mean to be difficult. I’m listening to Beck right now so . . . let’s say Beck, Lily Tomlin, Josh Tillman, my wife, and Martin Mull. I’ll make mimosas.
MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: Too many to choose from, Cleveland’s amazing for live music. I saw the group DUNGEN a few years ago and it was awesome. Here in town there’s a band called LITTLE BIGHORN and they are mind-blowing-ly good.
I WROTE THIS SONG: I had the melody and chords and it felt like a Charlie Rich vibe, or some AM-radio staple from when I was a kid. So that’s what I had in mind, lyric-wise. I like the phrase “lonesome pony time.” That’s Al Moss on the pedal steel, by the way.
