SONG: “The Way I’m Going”

HOMETOWN: Kansas City, Missouri

CURRENT LOCATION: Kansas City, Missouri

AMBITIONS: To work in film for the rest of my life, coupling that with great songs I write, marrying the two when I can, writing songs for film, traveling as much as I can for as long as I can with a ” I can do anything” approach, not settling for a less than desired lifestyle. To continue to write and perform songs.

TURN-OFFS:  Fast food, bad breath, dogs that pee/poop inside, people who constantly complain, hangovers.

TURN-ONS: All aspects of good cinema, traveling by train, inspiring people in their field of passion, New Mexico.

DREAM GIG: Sharing the same stage with Emmy Lou Harris or Dolly Parton, also recently singing back up for Ryan Adams, I love the way female harmonies sound with his work.

FAVORITE LYRIC:  “And farewell to the girl with the sun in her eyes, Can I Kiss you? and then I’ll be gone.” -Tom Waits

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Dancing on my own,” by Robyn.

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH:  Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Bernie Sanders, Bill Murray, and Amal Clooney

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: This is a good question, I feel like I haven’t seen a lot of “big” shows, mostly smaller shows so I am going to go with Broken Social Scene before Feist released her first album.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE… I wrote it last March with the thought I might put it on my last album release I’m not Coming Home. I lost a young friend to suicide in August and changed the lyrics. I felt like it was an ode to thoughts about him, his name was Phil, and I dedicated the song to him on the EP, may he rest in peace which I know peace he finally has found. I realize suicide is cliche to write about in songs, but I also felt like it was my first personal experience with it and needed to have a memory marker of that period in my life.
