SONG I WISH I WROTE: From a practical standpoint, probably “Happy Birthday” or “Yesterday” or something so I could pay off my credit cards, fix up my house, and make sure my kids are set. Artistically, I’d say “Every Grain Of Sand.”

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Rebecca, Jacob, Naomi, Eva, and Teresa Brindley.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: Probably my favorite concert was seeing Dave Van Ronk at a solo show in Montclair, New Jersey soon before he died. Unfortunately, he was coughing a lot, but played great, sang in his gruff, expressive voice, told some stories, and he just had a great presence.

I think the most moving concert experience was seeing Bruce Springsteen on The Rising tour in 2003. Even though I grew up in New Jersey, I was just getting into Springsteen and it was really powerful to see those songs live. I drank way too much at that show, got really sick, and quit drinking soon after, so it’s memorable for that reason as well.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE… I think that truth, beauty, and meaning often come from flawed and broken channels—not necessarily the most attractive or perfect.
