MY NIGHTLY RITUAL BEFORE BED: Well right now I’m slowly working my way through “War & Peace” by Leo Tolstoy. That will probably be my nightly ritual for the next 6 months at least.

I WROTE THIS SONG: like so many songs, this one came out of love lost. It resides in that weird tension between anger and missing someone dearly and wishing they were by your side again. When I wrote it, it was all scattered thoughts that I just wrote stream of consciousness. Turns out that feeling of scattered and conflicting emotions became the highlight of the song. It opens up with this sense of shock and confusion. I distinctly remember writing the line “No one’s ever loved me like you do” and feeling that the dichotomy of that realization with a feeling of loneliness was exactly what I was trying to communicate. Musically, it’s the most aggressive song I’ve ever written. I think this is mostly because of having no idea what to do with so many emotions that seemed to contradict one another.
