ARTIST: Helen McCreary

SONG: “Heart Beats”

Hometown: Melbourne, Florida by way of Cazenovia, New York

Current Location: Brooklyn, New York

Ambitions: Write great music, play it with good people, travel the world, and do some cool archaeology along the way!

Turn offs: Entitlement, disrespect

Turn ons: Ambition, work ethic, kindness

Dream gig: An NPR Tiny Desk Concert!

Favorite lyric: “The hours that were yours echo like empty rooms. Thoughts we used to share I now keep alone.” – “No Regrets” by Tom Rush

Song I wish I wrote: “Colors” by Amos Lee

5 people I’d most like to have dinner with: My grandfather, Benjamin Franklin, Beryl Markham (badass female aviator), Gotye, and Brandi Carlile

My favorite concert experience: Shakey Graves at Irving Plaza in New York. I was right up front, and he and his band were ROCKING OUT. So inspiring.

I wrote this song because: I’ve always been a little afraid of the dark. My worries and fears like to rear their heads when everyone else is asleep. This song is about lying next to someone you love and worrying about the future.
