SONG I WISH I WROTEElephant by Jason Isbell

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITHDorothy Parker, John Jeremiah Sullivan, Howard Thurman, Virginia Woolf, and Billie Holiday.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: Sufjan Stevens Adz Tour in Asheville, North Carolina.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSEIt can become exhausting to explain to friends and family why you love someone or something you shouldn’t love; why you love something that can’t love you back. I wanted to articulate that feeling of: “I know exactly what it’s doing to me, I know exactly how much this will hurt, and I want to hang on to it for just a little while longer.”
